India reports 21,257 fresh Covid-19 cases, 271 deaths

New Delhi Oct 08 : India has reported 21,257 fresh Covid-19 cases and 271 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

The current recovery rate is 97.96 per cent, the highest since March 2020 it stated.

“Total case recoveries in the last 24 hours has reached 24,963, taking the total tally to 3,32,25,221 in the country,” data mentioned.

The data suggested that the active cases account for less than 1 percent of the total case, which is 0.71 per cent, lowest since March 2020.

It said the active caseload stood at 2,40,221; lowest in 205 days, whereas the weekly positivity rate stood at 1.64 percent which is less than 3 percent for the last 105 days.

The Ministry said as the testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded.

In the last 24 hours a total of 13,85,706 tests were conducted. “India has so far conducted over 58 Cr cumulative tests,” the ministry said.

Meanwhile, with the administration of 50,17,753 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed the landmark of 93 Cr as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 90,68,525 sessions.

As per the date, more than 94.86 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs through direct procurement category.

“More than 8.22 Cr balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered,” the Ministry said.
