Taliban’s commitment not to allow Afghan soil for terrorism should be implemented: EAM

New York, Sep 23 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stressed on Tuesday that the Taliban’s commitment not to allow use of Afghanistan’s soil for terrorism in any manner should be implemented.

In his address to the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Afghanistan, Jaishankar also said that the international community must come together in response to the humanitarian needs in the country.

He also stressed that the aid providers must be accorded “unimpeded, unrestricted and direct access” in Afghanistan.

Jaishankar said “the world expects a broad based inclusive process that involves representation from all sections of Afghan society”, in reference to the Taliban government which India has said is not inclusive.

Referring to the UN Security Council resolution 2593, adopted during India’s presidency on August 30, he said it reflects the global sentiment and “should continue to guide our approach”.

He also said that India’s engagement with the country will be driven by its historical friendship with the Afghan people.
