COVID-19: India reports nearly 35K new infections, 260 deaths

New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) India logged 34,973 new cases and 260 deaths due to the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the union health ministry said on Friday.

The latest addition has pushed the cumulative case tally to 3,31,74,954 whereas the death toll has climbed to 4,42,009 according to the data.

The daily positivity rate of the infection has risen to 1.96 per cent in the country while the active cases have remained under 4 lakh after declining by 2,968 cases, as per the health ministry’s bulletin.

The cumulative active caseload now stands at 3,90,646. The share of active cases now stands at 1.18 per cent of the total Covid-19 cases, the figures showed.

Meanwhile, 37,681 more people recovered from the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours making the recovery registry climb to 3,23,42,299. As per the data, the recovery rate stands at 97.49 per cent

The union ministry stated that the weekly positivity rate (2.31 per cent) has been under 3 per cent for 77 days now.

A total of 53,86,04,854 samples were tested up to September 9, 2021, for Covid-19. Of these, 17,87,611 samples were tested on Thursday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 72 crores.

“With the administration of 67,58,491vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, country’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage surpassed the cumulative figure of 72.37Cr (72,37,84,586) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 74,18,183 sessions,” the ministry said.
