Mobile internet remains suspended in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 6: Mobile internet service of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended for the fifth day on Monday in the Kashmir valley, where authorities restored voice call and broadband of all TSPs on Friday night after two days.

Internet service and mobile service of all companies, barring BSNL, were suspended on Wednesday night as a precautionary measure following the death of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who breathed his last at his residence at Hyderpora in the outskirts of Srinagar.

The voice call and broadband services of all TSPs were restored Friday night. However, broadband of BSNL was working without any suspension in the valley.

Officials said in view of the peaceful situation, mobile service (voice call) and broadband of all TSPs were restored on Friday night. Mobile service (voice call) and broadband of BSNL were never closed, they added.

However, internet on mobile shall remains suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours, they said.

People are yet again requested not to pay any heed to rumours being maliciously spread by the anti-national elements especially across the border with an objective to disturb the prevalent peaceful atmosphere in the valley.

Train service remained suspended for the fifth day on Monday in the Kashmir valley as a precautionary measure.

Official sources told UNI that train will not chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir for the fifth day today.

Similarly, train service will remain suspended on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund route in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region, they added.

Train service was suspended on Thursday following direction from the administration and police as a precautionary measure after the death of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani who breathed his last at his Hyderpora residence on Wednesday night.

They said in the past railway property worth crores of rupees was damaged in violence in the valley.

Train service has become very popular as it is cheap, fast, comfortable and safe against other mode of transport available in the valley. Majority people are preferring to travel by train from Srinagar to Banihal and later to Jammu by road.
