Has govt sold Article 15, 25: Asks Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday slammed the government over incidents of violence against Dalits, Tribals and Muslims and questioned if Article 15 and Article 25 of the Constitution have been sold.

The Congress, meanwhile, accused the government of practicing a divide and rule policy.

The former Congress president on Monday shared a compilation of videos of violence, which included the video of a man being dragged behind a truck, and videos of Muslim men being forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

“Have you sold Article 15 and Article 25 as well?” Rahul Gandhi said.

The jibe comes as Congress has also been slamming the government over sale of national assets under the assets monetisation pipeline.

It also made a series of tweets with hashtags Article 15 and Article 25, and slammed the government for dividing the people to rule.

“Article 15 of the Constitution of India ensures a life free of discrimination for all Indian citizens. Unfortunately since the arrival of PM Modi, this surety has gone the way of “achhe din”,” Congress said in a tweet.

“How can we expect a party which runs on the basis of ‘divide & rule’ to understand that religious freedom & harmony are our nation’s greatest strengths? The unbridled attack on Article 25 of the Constitution exposes the hate that has spread under BJP rule,” the Congress party said.

Among the videos shared by Rahul Gandhi is one from Madhya Pradesh, which showed a Tribal man, later identified as Kahhaiya Bheel, being tied and dragged behind a truck.

Another video clip from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, shows a Muslim scrap dealer being asked to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Yet another video is from Kanpur, where a man was paraded through a street, assaulted and made to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as his daughter begged for mercy.

Article 15 of the Indian Constitution prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. Article 25 gives freedom of religion.
