Covid containment measures extended till Sept 30

New Delhi, Aug 28 (UNI) The Home Ministry on Saturday instructed states and Union territories to extend Covid-19 related measures till September 30, and take steps to avoid huge gatherings in the upcoming festive season.

Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, in a note to the states and Union territories, said the pandemic situation at the national level now appears to be largely stable, except for localised spread of the virus in a few states.

He said the states and UTs having high positivity districts should take proactive containment measures to arrest the spike.

“It is important to identify warning signs of potential surges early on and take steps to contain the spread of transmission,” the Home Secretary said.

The states and UTs have been asked to continue to avoid large gatherings in the coming festive season and impose local restrictions to curb gatherings.

The Home Secretary stressed on a five-pronged strategy – Test-Track-Treat-Vaccinate- and adherence of Covid- appropriate behaviour.

It also said a significant progress has been made in vaccination, and asked states to continue vaccination programmes to cover maximum number of people.
