Traffic resumes on Srinagar-Leh Highway

Srinagar, Aug 14 (UNI) Two-way traffic was resumed on Saturday on the national highway–the only road connecting Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir.

However, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will ply only from one side on the highway, a traffic police official told UNI.

He said, no vehicle was allowed from either side of the Zojila pass on Friday for weekly maintenance.

The UTs of Ladakh and J&K have decided that traffic every Friday will remain to suspend to allow the Beacon project to undertake necessary maintenance on the highway, particularly at Zojila pass, he added.

LMVs will have to ply between 0700 hrs to 1400 hrs from both sides, the official said, adding HMVs will ply from Kargil to Kashmir.
