Rajouri Grenade Blast: Minor reportedly killed, BJP leader, family members injured

Jammu, Aug 12 (UNI) A minor child was reportedly killed while a Bhartiya Janata Party leader and his family members suffered injuries in a grenade blast on Thursday evening in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said that seven persons, including a BJP Mandal president Jasbir Singh and his family members, have suffered injuries this evening in a grenade attack.
“One critically injured minor boy has reportedly succumbed to his injuries,” hospital sources here said.
However, official confirmation from police and the civil administration was still awaited.
“Blast occurred late evening near Khandlu Bridge, a few kilometers short of Rajouri, in which seven persons have suffered injuries,” the police added.
They said that BJP youth leader are among the injured, adding: “the injured have been rushed to the District hospital.”
Earlier, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh confirmed the blast.
The area has been cordoned off and searches are in progress, they added.
“The blast took place when family members were sitting in front of their house,” they said.
Some unidentified men have been suspected to have lobbed the grenade and the matter is being investigated, said police.
Meanwhile, General Secretary (Organisation) BJP J&K, Ashok Koul, has condemned the attack.
“Condemning the terrorist attack on our Mandal President Rajouri Urban Shri Jasbir Singh’s residence, in which 7-8 family members were seriously injured. This is a cowardly act that will never be accepted,” Mr Koul tweeted.
