LG flags off run for polythene-free Srinagar, Cyclothon pedal for Dal

Srinagar, Aug 7 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday flagged off “ Run for Polythene-free Srinagar” and Cyclothon event “Pedal for Dal”.

The “Run for Polythene-Free Srinagar” from iconic Ghanta Ghar, historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city. The path-breaking initiative is aimed at making cleaner streets, lakes and communities to bring better environmental sustainability in the UT.

Around 600 children passed through various areas of the city to generate awareness against the use of polythene to make Srinagar polythene-free zone, Mr Sinha said.

LG Governor also flagged off Cyclothon event ‘Pedal for Dal’, as a run up to the Independence Day celebrations.

He said such activities of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ gives hope to the entire humanity.

More than 200 children from different age groups, along with professional cyclists, enthusiastically participated in this Cyclothon. The young generation has the huge responsibility to ensure peace, prosperity and unity of the nation, he said.
