Ganj Basoda tragedy: Toll rises to four

Vidisha, MP, July 16 (UNI) Four corpses have been brought out thus far during a rescue and relief operation that progressed on war footing throughout the night in Lal Pathaar area on the outskirts of Ganj Basoda tehsil headquarters, following an alert that about 30 villagers fell into an approximately 30-ft-deep well when the underground structure’s cement roof – partially covering it – collapsed and a net gave way while locals were attempting to bring out a minor.

At least a dozen villagers are still reported to be missing and their distraught relatives are present in the vicinity. National and State Disaster Response Forces’ personnel are in action.

By 2200 hrs on Thursday, 15 victims were rescued and admitted at an infirmary in Ganj Basoda. The mission was affected after some team members and machinery also fell into roughly 20-ft-deep water when soil collapsed. Providentially, they were brought out.
