COVID-19: India reports 38,949 cases, 542 deaths in past 24 hrs

New Delhi, Jul 16 (UNI) India recorded 38,949 new Covid-19 cases during the past 24 hours, pushing the country’s caseload to 3,10,26,829, while the death toll soared to 4,12,531 with 542 more fatalities, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

The active cases declined by 1,619 to stand at 4,30,422. It is now 1.39 per cent of the total caseload.

The past 24 hours saw 40,026 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 3,01,83,876, which is 97.28 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.33 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 44,00,23,239 lakh samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 19,55,910 were tested in the past day.

On the vaccination front, 39,53,43,767 people have been administered Covid-19 vaccines, with 38,78,078 being inoculated in the past 24 hours.
