Shopian, June 23,: A militant has been killed in the ongoing gunfight here in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Earlier, Joint Forces including soldiers from 44 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operations Group and CRPF personnel from 178 Battalion cordoned off Heff Shirmal village that falls under the jurisdiction of police station Zaimpora.
Joint Forces had received information about the presence of at least three militants in the area. The militants reportedly were seen moving in Rambiara area when the area was sealed.
Divulging information about the encounter, a police official said that during the initial exchange of fire, an unidentified militant has been killed. He said the operation is underway and efforts are on to persuade the trapped militants to surrender. (KNT)
