Fire in I&FC office in Srinagar damages record, other documents, vehicles

Srinagar, Jun 9 ;Devastating fire in Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) office in Srinagar on Wednesday damaged computers, record and other documents besides two condemned vehicles.

However, no one was injured in the incident, officials said. They said fire broke out in the I&FC office at Gogji Bagh in Srinagar today. However, before the fire tenders could reach the spot, fire spread to entire wooden block.

An official of Fire and Emergency Department (F&ED) told UNI that immediately after the information was received about fire in the Mechanical department of (I&FC), fire tenders from different parts of the city were rushed there. Fire tenders were also rushed from F&ED office at Batmaloo, he said adding the fire was brought under control after several hours.

He said five of the eight rooms build of wood, including ply-board, were gutted in the fire. Though the exact loss of property was being ascertained, but five rooms, office record and other documents, computers besides two condemned vehicles were damaged in the fire.

The cause of fire was being ascertained, he said.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and initiated proceedings, officials said.
