LG responds to minor’s appeal about online class, directs for lightning of homework burden

Srinagar, Jun 1 : Moved by a video message of a six-year-old girl complaining to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about huge burden of homework through Zoom classes, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha directed the education department to come out with a policy within 48 hours to lighten the burden of homework of schools children.
Mr Sinha said the childhood innocence is gift of God and their days should be lively, full of joy and bliss. “Very adorable complaint. Have directed the school education department to come out with a policy within 48 hours to lighten burden of homework on school kids. Childhood innocence is gift of God and their days should be lively, full of joy and bliss,” the Lt Governor wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

In the short video clip, which has gone viral on social media, the little girl could be heard taking about the hectic schedule they (kids) have to follow during the online classes. “Mr Modi I am a 6-year-old girl. Why do teachers put heavy burden of homework on small children,” she asked.Explaining her schedule, she goes on to say that her Zoom classes start at 1000 hrs till 1400 hrs without any break.
Class work remained suspended as educational institutes — including schools, colleges, universities and private coaching centres — have been directed to remain closed till June 15 in the valley.

Teachers, however, are conducting online classes from home in the valley though many students alleged that they were unable to attend these classes due to the non-availability of smartphones.

he administration in May this year ordered the closure of all universities, colleges, schools, and coaching centres in the Union Territory till May 15 though teaching and non-teaching staff were asked to attend schools and colleges. But, the J&K administration later allowed teaching and non-teaching staff to stay home in view of a surge in COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir. The closure of the educational institutes was extended till May 30 which has again been extended till June 15.

Meanwhile, the decision to allow teachers to take online classes from their respective homes was taken after many teaching and non-teaching staff members of government schools tested positive for the virus in the Union Territory.
