India logs 2.59 lakh new nCoV cases, 4.2k deaths

New Delhi, May 21 : India reported 2,59,591 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the infection tally to 2,60,31,991, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

Besides, the country also saw 4,209 more fatalities due to the virus, pushing the toll to 2,91,331. On Thursday, the country recorded 3,874 deaths.

On a positive front, 3,57,295 patients recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,27,12,735.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 32,44,17,870 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus, of which record 20,61,683 tests were conducted in the past one day.

Currently, the country houses 30,27,925 active cases.

On Thursday, India had registered 2,76,110 new Covid-19 cases.
