COVID-19: India records 3.11 lakh cases, 4077 deaths

New Delhi, May 16 : India on Sunday reported a spike of 3,11,170 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 4,077 casualties during the past 24 hours.

According to the data updated by the Union Health Ministry, the fresh addition took the total tally beyond 2.46 crore while the death toll soared to 2,70,284.

The active caseload in the country is 36,18,458 comprising 15.07 per cent of the total infections while 2,07,95,335 people have recovered from disease so far amounting 83.83 per cent of recovery rate. The case fatality rate stands at 1.09 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 31,48,50,143 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 18,32,950 were tested in the past one day.

On the vaccination front, a total of 18,22,20,164 people have been vaccinated across the country till now.
