DC, Srinagar warns against black marketing of oxygen, medicines

Srinagar, May 5 : Issuing a stern warning for overcharging for refilling oxygen cylinders and essential medicines, the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Srinagar said administration will not allow profiteering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter DC Aijaz Asad said “ No profiteering from the pandemic. In case u come across any incident of overcharging for essential Medicines, Oxygen refilling, etc. pl do inform us”.

Srinagar district recorded 1311 fresh COVID-19 positive cases on Tuesday.Meanwhile, an official spokesman said Mr Asad has directed Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), Block Medical Officers (BMOs) and Zonal Medical Officers (ZMOs) to review the control measures in their respective jurisdictions and focus on further improving the Covid-19 Control measures to contain the spread of infection.

While taking strong note of complaints received with regard to underweight filling of Medical Oxygen Cylinders by some plant owners, the DC directed for initiating enquiry to ascertain the factual position. He said strict action as warranted under DDMA will be taken against the erring medical oxygen companies.

With regard to augmentation of human resources, the DC directed for preparing a list of retired Doctors and other Paramedical staff at the earliest so that their services can be utilized during any emerging exigency.

Mr Asad also directed the officers to work in close liaison with Covid-19 War Control Room for better coordination besides ensuring timely updates regarding availability of beds, medicines, oxygen and other related facilities available in their respective health facilities so that the same is shared with the general public through Covid-19 War Control Room.

He further asked them to prepare a concrete programme for at least next one month to fight the Covid-19 and undertake all required measures to further strengthen the health care system to break the chain of infection.

Mr Asad asked the officers to identify a few PHCs which can be used as Covid-19 wellness centers and necessary oxygen concentrators will be installed at these PHCs to further strengthen the system to defeat the Covid-19.

Spokesman said Mr Asad visited Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial hospital Rainawari to oversee the functioning of Oxygen Generation Plants and other facilities made for Covid positive patients yesterday.

He was informed that 1000 Liters Per Minute (LPM) capacity Oxygen Generation Plant has been made functional recently in addition to 350 LPM oxygen plant to cater the demand of the hospital. He was also informed that work on the 625 lpm oxygen generation plant is going on and shall be completed within a few days to further augment the oxygen generation capacity in the hospital.

The DC directed the concerned to ensure effective functioning of oxygen plants so that patients do not suffer. He also directed them to work in double shifts to make a new oxygen plant of 625 LPM capacity functional within 5 days.

He also inspected other facilities being made available to patients and directed for further improving the health care facilities in the hospital.
