11 patients die at Chengalpattu Govt Hospital

Chennai, May 5: In a shocking incident, 11 patients have died since last night at the Government Chengalpattu

Medical College Hospital in Tamil Nadu.

Though the relatives of the patients alleged that the deaths were due to oxygen shortage, Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan on Wednesday denied it and said there was sufficient stock of oxygen in the hospital.

There is sufficient stock of oxygen in the hospital. It is not an oxygen supply issue as several patients are being treated with oxygen support and they are not affected”, he said.

He said an inquiry has been ordered into the deaths and the cause for the deaths will be known after the probe.

It may be noted that a few days back six patients died at the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital and their relatives alleged that deaths were due to disruption in oxygen supply.

However, the Vellore district administration denied it and an inquiry by the Director Medical Education has been ordered into the deaths.
