6.7 magnitude quake rocks NE states

Shillong, Apr 28: An earthquake jolted India’s north-eastern states and parts of Bangladesh and Bhutan on Wednesday, an official said.However, there were no immediate reports of any casualty or major damage to property.

The earthquake, measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale was felt at 7.51 am with its epicentre located at Sonitpur district in Assam, a seismologist at the Regional Seismological Centre said.

Aftershocks were also felt.The earthquake was felt in some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and adjoining areas of the north-eastern region, besides parts of Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Seven of the northeastern states “Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur” are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
