Srinagar: As the wet weather makes way for clear skies, the minimum temperatures remained below normal in Kashmir Valley with Gulmarg recording a low of minus 3.4°C, officials said on Saturday.

A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 5.6°C against 4.6°C on the previous night while it received 0.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. today. The temperature was 3.5°C below normal in the summer capital of J-K for this time of the season, he said.

Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a low of 3.2°C against previous night’s 3.6°C amid 0.6mm of rain during the time, the official said.

Mercury settled at minus 1.6°C against 0.8°C on the previous night in Pahalgam while the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir received 3.6mm of rain during the time, he said.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 2.7°C against previous night’s 1.8°C while it had 3.2mm of rain during the time, the official said.

North Kashmir’s Kupwara district recorded a low of 4.5 against 3.7°C on the previous night which is below normal by 3.1°C for this season, the official said.

Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, received 3.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours while the resort recorded a low of minus 3.4°C against minus 2.0°C on the previous night, the official said.

The MeT office has predicted “dry and warmer” weather till 3 May in both J-K and Ladakh.

“Weather is clear and dry in both J-K and Ladakh and is likely to continue till 3rd May,” Sonam Lotus, Director of local Meteorological Department said.
