Former J&K legislator Thakur Puran Singh dies after returning from Uttarakhand

Thakur Puran Singh, the former lawmaker and Minister of State in Jammu and Kashmir, died on Thursday in his hometown of Rajouri. In his mid 70s, Thakur was earlier affiliated with the Congress and later joined the BJP.

He remained Member Legislative Assembly from Darhal assembly segment till 2002 as independent candidate and later joined Congress and was inducted as MoS Forest and Fisheries.

He joined the BJP in 2014.A resident of Badhal in Budhal area of Rajouri’s Kotranka subdivision, Thakur had recently returned from a religious congregation in Uttarakhand and fell ill.

He was being taken to a hospital outside Jammu and Kashmir but died on the way, his relatives said.Officials in district administration Rajouri said that the “exact” cause of his death is not clear yet. Media Reports
