Twin South Kashmir encounters ended with the killing of 7 militants

Srinagar, April 9, : At least militants including a top Commander from Ansar Ghazwatul Hindh were killed in twin encounters in Kashmir Valley, official sources said.

In the overnight encounter that broke out in South Kashmir’s Shopian town, five militants were killed while the equal number of soldiers were wounded in the said encounter.

Official sources told KNT that militants were present inside a mosque in Jan Mohalla area of Shopian. “Extra care was taken to maintain the sanctity of the mosque while hard efforts were put to persuade the hiding militants to surrender, however, they refused the offer,” official sources said.

They said that the identity of the slain militants is being ascertained.

An Army official while confirming the killing of five militants in Shopian said that 5 A-K assault rifles and a pistol were recovered from the spot of gunfight. He said that 4 soldiers including an officer were injured who have been evacuated to 92 Base Army Hospital Srinagar.

He said that Shopian operation is over with the killing of five militants.

In another encounter that broke out in Nowbugh village of Tral town in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, two militants including the Chief Commander of Ansar Ghazwatul Hindh were killed. Police identified the Chief Commander as Imtiyaz Ahmed Shah.

Jammu Kashmir Police in a tweet said that Inspector General of Police for Kashmir has congratulated combined forces for successful operation in Tral.

While divulging information about Tral encounter, an army official said that the gunfight has ended with the killing of two militants. He said one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), a pistol and 2 A-K 47 rifles were recovered from the spot of encounter.

Meanwhile, internet services have been snapped in both districts as a precautionary measure. (KNT)
