Non-local labourer tests positive for COVID in Lolab

DC Kupwara directs mass-sampling of outside labourers

Srinagar, Mar 31: A 30-year-old non-local labourer has on Wednesday tested positive for novel Coronavirus infection in Sogam area of Kupwara, forcing the district administration to go for sampling of his primary contacts even as authorities directed concerned to prioritize sampling of all outside labourers engaged in different works in the north Kashmir district.

Block Medical Officer Dr. Raheem told Global News Service (GNS) that the labourer putting up at a rented room in Sogam area returned positive for the infection at a local health facility this afternoon.

“The infected person was isolated immediately” the official said adding that all the primary contacts of the infected person would be tested soon.

Meanwhile DC Kupwara Imam-ud-Din while talking to GNS said that the authorities concerned have been asked to collect samples of all the primary contacts of the infected person on an immediate basis ‘to rule out any chances of spread of the infection’.

“The health authorities are directed to prepare a list of all the non-local labourers putting up here in the district and to prioritize their sampling on an immediate basis”, the top-level district officer said. (GNS)
