Karnah road reopen, dozens of villages remain cut off in north Kashmir

Karnah road reopen, dozens of villages remain cut off in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 26 (UNI) The road from Kupwara to border areas of Karnah and Tangdhar in north Kashmir reopened on Friday after remaining closed for four days due to accumulation of snow.

However, dozens of far flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Bandipora remained cut off for the fifth day on Friday due to fresh snowfall, avalanches and landslides.

Border towns of Keran and Machil remained cut off with their district headquarter Kupwara, a Police Control Room (PCR) official told UNI over phone today.
He said traffic was on Friday resumed on Kupwara and Karnah and Tanghdar road also connecting dozens of other villages.

Meanwhile, traffic to the border town of Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) from three sides, remained suspended since January 1 due to the accumulation of snow at Razdan pass and adjoining areas.

An official of Police Control Room (PCR) from Bandipora told UNI that Gurez remained closed for traffic since January 1. “Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC with district headquarters Bandipora, received fresh snowfall on Monday and Tuesday, hampering the snow clearance operation,” he said.

He said Razdan pass received about a foot of fresh snowfall while other places, including Dawar and Tulail Valley, recorded 4 to 7 inches of fresh snow.
