Germany to extend COVID-19 curbs, impose Easter lockdown

 

 

Berlin,Mar 23; Chancellor Angela Merkel announced on Tuesday that Germany will be extending its coronavirus restrictions until April 18 and impose a much stricter lockdown for five days over the Easter weekend in a bid to contain the spread of COVID cases.

A partial lockdown is already in place across the country, which have already closed cultural, leisure and sporting facilities across the country, will be made much tougher for the Easter holidays between April 1 and 5.

Germany’s national disease control centre has warned that the number of new infections across the country are growing at an exponential rate as the more contagious COVID-19 variant first detected in the United Kingdom has also become dominant within Germany’s borders.
