Week-long programme on International Womens Day culminates at GCE, Sgr

 

 

Srinagar March 18: A weeklong programme on International Women’s Day culminated on Saturday at the Government College of Education (Institute of Advanced Studies in Education), M.A Road Srinagar.

The event witnessed various programmes throughout the week related to awareness about women’s rights, rallies, speeches, screening of documentaries and seminars.

At the outset, the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Kanth congratulated all the faculty and students on the occasion of women’s day.

She pledged to spread awareness about women’s rights.

The second session of the day convened an interaction with members of District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar, Advocate Tabasum Rasool, Advocate Henna and Advocate Mohammad Aslam who highlighted various provisions of law that protect and safeguard women and women’s rights.

On the second day, an in-campus rally of staff and students was organised with a tour of entire campus, holding placards and pledging full support to spread gender sensitivity and unflinching support to overcome all discrimination faced by women in our society. After this the faculty members shared their ideas on the ‘Wall of Thoughts’ specially created for this purpose.

In the post lunch session, Mir Toyibah, a young woman entrepreneur shared her experiences and emphasized the focused thought, strengthened body and mind and absolute resolve on the part of women leading to actual emancipation.

The day three of the weeklong programme began with screening of a documentary titled ‘Equal Half’ for the students in the college auditorium.

In the second session of the day, a seminar was organised for the students of the constituent colleges of the Cluster University Srinagar on the theme ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World’. Nine Students from constituent colleges spoke on different facets of the theme.

On 13th March, 2021, women personalities viz Deputy Superintendent of Police, J&K and SDPO, Kothibagh, Srinagar shared their experiences and emphasized upon creating awareness and sensitization about the challenges faced by women who form the core of society.

They further said that the sensitisation about women’s rights and removing the discrimination faced by women in our society will ultimately lead to women empowerment.

The detailed report on the weeklong programme was presented by Dr. Tabasum Maqbool. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Syed Shabana Shabir.

Later, the guests were accompanied by the Principal and the faculty to inaugurate the Art Exhibition organised by the Women’s Studies Centre.
