COVID: India records 18,599 cases

New Delhi, Mar 8: With the detection of 18,599 new coronavirus cases, the total number of infections in the country has reached 1,12,29,398, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare update said on Monday.

The death toll from the disease has reached 1,57,853, with 97 new fatalities being recorded over the past day.

The country has recorded 14,278 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,08,82,798, which leads to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 96.91 per cent, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.41 per cent, as per the health ministry update.

India comes second in terms of the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, following the United States, with 2,90,31,973 COVID-19 patients.

The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11. To date, more than 2,90,31,973 people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 25,89,638 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
