Coimbatore, Feb 25 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi
on Thursday dedicated to the Nation the Lignite based
Neyveli New thermal Power Project and laid foundation
stones for multiple infrastructure projects and development
works worth over Rs 12,400 crores that will further ‘Ease
of Living’ and economic growth for a prosperous Tamil Nadu.
Mr Modi, who arrived here after launching a slew of
projects in Puducherry, dedicated to the Nation the
Neyveli new Thermal Power Project designed for power
generation capacity of 1000 MW and the 709 MW solar
power project of NLCIL, which was established over
an area of about 2,670 actres.
He also laid the foundation for extension, renovation
and modernisation of Lower Bhavani Project system at
a cost of Rs 934 crore under NABARD Infrastructure
Development Assistance, inaugurated the eight laning
of Korampallam Bridge and Rail Over Bridge at the
V O Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin and laid the
foundation stone for design, supply, installation and
commissioning of a 5 MW grid connected ground
based solar power plant at the Port.
He also inaugurated tenements constructed under the
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) scheme with the
aim to boost ease of living and also laid the foundation
stone for the development of Integrated Command and
Control Centres (ICCC) in Smart Cities.
Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister
Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy CM O Paneerselvam
and others were present at the event held at Codissia
Trade Fair complex in this Textile city.
The Neyveli New Thermal Power Project is a lignite
based power plant designed for power generation
capacity of 1000 MW, and has two units of 500 MW
capacity each.
Built at a cost of about Rs 8,000 crore, the pit
head power plant will utilise lignite as fuel from
the existing mines of Neyveli, which have sufficient
lignite reserves for meeting the lifetime requirement
of the project.
The Plant has been designed for 100% Ash utilization.
The power generated would benefit Tamil Nadu, Kerala,
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry,
with Tamil Nadu having the major share of about 65%.
The 709 MW Solar Power Project of NLCIL, established
over an area of about 2670 acres of land across the
districts of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram
and Virudhunagar, was set up at a cost of Rs 3,000
crore.
The 5 MW grid connected ground based solar power plant
at the VOC Port was being set up at an estimated cost of
about Rs 20 crore. It, will generate over 80 lakh units (KWH)
per annum, meeting 56 per cent of the total energy consumption
of the Port, thereby helping reduce carbon footprint of port
operations.
The (ICCC) in nine Smart Cities including Coimbatore,
Madurai, Salem, Thanjavur, Vellore, Tiruchirappalli,
Tiruppur, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, would would be
developed at a cost of about Rs 107 crore, and would
act as a 24×7 support system, providing real time
smart solutions for quicker services, with the aim
of integrating essential government services and
enabling data based decision making.
He also inaugurated 1,280 tenements at Veerapandi and
1,248 teneents at Thirukumaran Nagar in Tiruppur, 1,088
tenements at Rjakkur in Madurai district, 528 tenements
at Irungalur in Tiruchirapalli district.(UNI)
