India records 9,309 new cases of COVID-19, 78 die

New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) India on Friday recorded 9,309 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,08,80,603, while the death toll mounted to 1,55,447 with 78 more fatalities.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases further shrank by 6,636 to stand at 1,35,926. It is now 1.25 per cent of the total caseload. Two states – Kerala and Maharashtra- account for over 70 per cent of the total active cases of the country.

Of the fresh fatalities, 25 were from Maharashtra, 16 from Kerala and 7 each from Punjab and Karnataka.

The past 24 hours saw 15,858 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,05,89,230, which is 97.32 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.43 per cent. Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 6,107 newly recovered cases. 5,692 people recovered in Kerala in the past 24 hours.

According to Health Ministry, 18 States/UTs have not reported any death in the last 24 hours.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR), 7,65,944 samples were tested on Thursday, taking the total number of tests carried out by the body till date to 20,47,89,784 .
