By manipulating DDC results, BJP put final nail in coffin of ‘Jamhuriyat’: Mehbooba

Mehbooba Mufti has accused senior officers of police and civil administration of violating the mandate of the people.

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday alleged that two months were given to buy and intimidate the DDC members.

Pertinently, in various districts, PDP and National Conference despite having majority of Councilors failed to get DDC Chairman posts. In Srinagar, Apni Party member was elected DDC Chairman with the support of BJP while in Budgam, despite having majority, National Conference tasted defeat.

Taking to her Twitter handle, Mehbooba mocked the exercise of DDC Chairman elections, and said that it was “disgusting that senior officers in admin and police have taken it upon themselves to violate the mandate of people. By scrapping Article 370, BJP had already murdered insaniyat and Kashmiriyat. Now by manipulating DDC results, they’ve put the final nail in the coffin of Jamhuriyat.”

She further stated: “So much for Vajpayee ji’s vision of insaniyat, Kashmiriyat & jamhuriyat. Not surprised at all by recent DDC Chairmanship results. Two months were given to buy & intimidate the DDC members.”

Earlier as well, PAGD members accused BJP and Apni Party of ‘fraud’ in the election of DDC Chairman posts.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had expressed his displeasure through a tweet stating, “Shopian DDC election, even Srinagar for that matter, aren’t really a surprise. These people have been buying & selling elected representatives since 1984. Practice makes perfect!”

National Conference senior leader Imran Nabi Dar who sarcastically termed ‘Apni Party’ as ‘Kings Party in a tweet said that “King’s party which won only 2 DDC seats in Shopian district, engineered defections post elections and are now heading the DDC Council there. Similarly in Srinagar, the party won just 3 seats and managed to take control of the district. Is ko bolte hai democracy is aisi ki taisi.” (with inputs from KNT)
