Nodal officer appointed to deal with Avian influenza in Goa

Panaji/Goa Government has appointed a nodal officer to deal with Avian Influenza in the state.
A statement from the government said, Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has informed about the outbreak of the Avian Influenza or Bird Flu in different states of India, including the State of Maharashtra.
Any unusual sickness and mortality in poultry and wild birds must be reported to the State Nodal Officer for Avian Influenza/Bird Flu at the Office of the Assistant Director, Disease Investigation Unit, Tonca – Caranzalem.
The Nodal officer may be reached also in case of additional information about the same in avian species in your vicinity.
The Advisory by Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, New Delhi, has informed the general public that poultry products cooked at more than 70oC temperature for 30 minutes inactivates the virus and it is absolutely safe to consume properly cooked poultry meat and eggs and Public are advised to practice hygienic way slaughtering dressing and packing of chicken meat.
Meanwhile, North Goa District Magistrate R Menaka, IAS, prohibited the transportation and entry of birds and eggs from Maharashtra and Karnataka into North Goa District either directly or indirectly.
The order came into force with immediate effect till further orders.
‘Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, as informed by Department of Information and Publicity,’ the order said.
