China to sanction US officials over Taiwan issue

Beijing, China on Monday said that US officials, who have ”engaged in nasty behaviour over Taiwan issue,” will face sanctions.
“Due to the wrongful actions of the US side, China has already decided to impose sanctions on the US officials, who behave egregiously on Taiwan,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters here. However, she did not elaborate.
Recently, the US had lifted restrictions on exchanges between US and Taiwanese officials. China claims Taiwan as its own territory.
China’s comment came a week after US Ambassador to the UN Kelly Craft had spoken to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.

Last year, both the countries had imposed sanctions on each other over Trade issue and the handling of Novel Coronavirus. The US sanctions included those on top officials involved in China’s clampdown on Hong Kong, including city’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam.
