Nepal congratulates India for ‘remarkable success’ on Covid vaccines

New Delhi, Nepal on Friday congratulated India on the ‘remarkable success’ in the production of two vaccines, to combat the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.

‘Nepal congratulated India on the remarkable success in production of Covishield and Covaxin vaccines in India,’ the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement here, after the sixth meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Commission, which was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Nepali counterpart Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.

The MEA said Nepal requested for early provision of vaccines to their country.

The Nepal government on Friday approved the emergency use of Serum Institute of India’s COVID-19 vaccine.

The Joint Commission also saw intense discussions on a host of issues, particularly connectivity, infrastructure projects and country operation for combating the pandemic.

The Nepali delegation extended its Government’s support for India’s candidature for permanent seat at an extended UN Security Council.

The high-level delegation included Foreign Secretary of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Foreign Secretary of Nepal Bharat Raj Paudyal, among other senior officials.

Noting the utility of the Motihari-Amlekhganj petroleum products pipeline, the two sides deliberated on plans to expand the pipeline to Chitwan and plans for establishing a new pipeline, connecting Siliguri to Jhapa in Nepal.
