Mamata greets to everyone on auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti

Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday greeted

to everyone on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti.

“Heartiest greetings to everyone on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. Lakhs

of pilgrims will take the holy dip today at Gangasagar,” Ms Banerjee posted on her social

networking page.

“My best wishes to all. Sab tirtha baar baar, Gangasagar ek baar,” she said.

Ms Banerjee also wished everyone on the occasion of Poush Sankranti.

“Wishing everyone on the occasion of Poush Sankranti. May the pithe-puli add

sweetness in your lives,” the chief minister tweeted.

“I pray for the prosperity of every household in Bengal,” she added.

The harvest festival celebrated across India – Makar Sankranti – is known as Poush

Sankranti mainly in West Bengal, Assam and in parts of eastern India.

The rituals, puja and and traditional customs revolve around special food items, which

are cooked in households only during the Sankranti or Uttarayan season

Even though Sankranti is known by different names in different states of India, the

theme is same everywhere. It is a celebration of a bumper harvest and people offer

prayers and special food items to their household deities, Goddess Lakshmi or Lord
