UP declared controlled area over bird flu: import of live birds banned till Jan 24

Lucknow/ Uttar Pradesh was on Tuesday declared a ‘controlled area’ in the face of bird flu outbreak in Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
State Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry Bhuvnesh Kumar, in a fresh notification here today, completely banned the import of live birds from other states with immediate effect.

The ban will be in place in the state till January 24, the order says. Further extension of the ban will be considered after reviewing the situation.

Earlier, the UP government had issued instructions to all the districts, asking district magistrates to strictly monitor that poultry products from affected states do not enter the state.

It added that the poultry and eggs should not be transported in open vehicles and that markets selling poultry must be closed once a week.

“Instructions to all the district magistrates that poultry products from the infected states should not come into Uttar Pradesh, and if it does, it should be stopped immediately and inform the concerned officials,” the notification said.

The advisory was issued by Alok Sinha, state agriculture production commissioner.

The advisory added that poultry and other birds and eggs should not be transported in open vehicles.

“A list should be made about all poultry products as well as retail and wholesale markets, where instructions must be issued regarding cleanliness as per advisory provided by the government of India,” it said.

The advisory also asked officials to make another list of bird sanctuaries and water bodies visited by birds coming from abroad as well as wild birds.
Meanwhile, on Monday state Chief Secretary R K Tiwari held a virtual meeting of the state level task force on the situation arising due to the spread of bird flu.

A control room has been set up in the state headquarter of the Animal Husbandry department with a toll free number 18001805154 and a landline number -0522-2741991-92.

The chief secretary also asked all the departments that they should spread awareness among the general public that chicken and eggs cooked over 70 degree temperature do not contain the virus
