Heavy snowfall: Woman walks 5kms in Hajin B’pora while 9 months pregnant

Bandipora, Jan 6 : Amid heavy snowfall and with roads still impassable in Hajin area of this north Kashmir district, a mother-to-be was forced on Wednesday to walk around 5 kilometers while nine months pregnant.

A resident of Kosumbagh Hakabra Hajin area, she walked on foot from Hakabara to Safapora which is still clogged with snow, Fayaz Ahmad, husband of the pregnant woman told GNS.

“In such a condition, she walked rather struggled for a two-hour before reaching midway to the health centre Sumbal as a vehicle was available from there (after reaching midway).”

When GNS contacted AEE R&B Sumbal he said that the snow was cleared from the road stretch from Hakabara to Safapora on Tuesday. “However more snowfall accumulated on the road and is being cleared soon.”

Dr Muzaffar Medical Officer Community Health Centre told GNS that no call was received on the helpline number which has established for emergency purposes.“We would have made best efforts to reach out to the family.” (GNS)
