Tangpora residents up in arms against tariff hike, unscheduled power cuts

Srinagar, Dec 26: Residents of Tangpora here staged a protest demonstration against Power Development Department (PDD) over “unilateral hike in electricity tariff.”

The locals took to the roads and staged protests in their locality. Holding electricity bills in their hands, the locals chanted slogans against the PDD. They also alleged that the Department has failed to provide electricity even as per the schedule.

“In times of coronavirus when most people are finding it hard to make ends meet, the PDD has unilaterally increased power tariff to add to the sufferings of people,” they said, adding, “How can we pay such inflated electricity bills?”
“The department has miserably failed to provide uninterrupted supply to Tangpora area,” they said.

“How can PDD increase tariff without consulting consumers? First they should provide electricity as per schedule,” they added. (GNS)
