Priyanka, protesting Cong leaders detained on way to Rashtrapati Bhawan; released later

New Delhi, Dec 24 : Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several other party leaders and workers, were on Thursday detained by police while they headed towards the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

According to police, around 60 people, including MS Vadra and other party leaders, were detained and taken to Mandir Marg Police station for defying the authorities as permission for a march was denied in view of the Covid pandemic. Permission was granted for only three leaders– Rahul Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad– who had an appointment with the President.

Due to the imposition of section 144 CrPC in the said area and DDM guidelines, they were given several warnings to disperse. Seeing that their warnings were falling on deaf ears, 58 male and six female protestors were detained and taken to the Police Station Mandir Marg and were released later.

The police said that it had already conveyed in writing to the organiser of the march that in the present situation of the pandemic the march was not permitted.
