Farmers will not return until their demands are met: Rahul

New Delhi, Dec 24 : Former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday termed the recently enacted farm laws ‘anti-farmer’ and said that the farmers agitating on the capital’s borders will return only when these laws are repealed.Talking to reporters after meeting and handing over the memorandum to the president Ram Nath Kovind along with Congress delegation here, Mr Gandhi said that the letters with 2 crore farmers’ signatures in support of the farmers’ demands were given to the president and it has been conveyed to him that the nation’s farmer is against the new agri-laws, while the government is adamant on not accepting their demand.

After handing over the memorandum to the president along with senior Congress leader and leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Mr Gandhi said, ‘Three of us met the president. Along with the 2 crore letters signed from the farmers, we made the farmers voice reach the president. It is the winter season and the entire nation can see that the farmer is in distress, pain and is dying. The PM will have to listen to them.’

He said that the government must understand that the farmers’ movement is not going to end , and therefore it must listen to what the farmers are saying. The farmers will not return to their homes unless their demands are heard and the three new farm laws are repealed.
