People voted en masse for PAGD, rejecting decision to abrogate Article 370: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Dec 23 (UNI) Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the results of District Development Council (DDC) has made it clear that the people of J&K voted en masse for Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), rejecting the ‘unconstitutional’ decision to abrogate Article 370.

Ms Mehbooba, who is the vice-president of PAGD, said that an election conducted in peace and with fairness is a victory for democracy. However, said that the situation on the ground was far from ideal considering the odds against which the Gupkar Alliance fought the elections.
“Today’s DDC results have made it clear that people of J&K voted en masse for @JKPAGD thus rejecting the unconstitutional decision to abrogate Article 370. They have overwhelmingly supported @JKPAGD which stands for restoration of J&Ks special status,” Ms Mehbooba, who is the president of PDP, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. PDP is among six parties which constituted PAGD.

She alleged that she was illegally detained thrice over the course of a fortnight, adding that the PAGD candidates were locked up in a government building while others barred from canvassing. “Despite all these obstacles PAGD emerged as winners. This has been a hard earned victory for all us,” she said.

“Even after a split in PDP engineered by GOI & all the attempts to write us off, my cadre worked day and night to ensure party’s victory. I am extremely grateful to them,” she further alleged.
