Five passengers on Air India flight from London test Covid-19 positive

New Delhi, Dec 22 : Five out of 266 passengers who landed here by Air India flight on Monday night tested Covid positive and have been sent to Covid care centre, officials said.
The samples of these passengers have been sent to National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to verify whether these infections are simple one or a new strain of coronavirus that has been detected in the UK.

Meanwhile, a British Airways flight arrived this morning, all passengers are being tested at Delhi Airport, the officials added.

Amid rising fears over a new strain of coronavirus that has been detected in Britain a few days ago, the Centre on Monday imposed a ban on flights from the UK from December 23 (Wednesday) which will last till December 31, till then all passengers who are arriving in National Capital or have a connecting flight from London will be first tested at Delhi airport.

At least 40 countries including India and Saudi Arebia have banned the flights from UK in wake of the new COVID-19 variant.
