Two drug peddlers arrested, one booked under PSA in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 21 : Two drug peddlers were arrested, including one of them booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) in the Kashmir valley, where Police organized rally against drug abuse during the past 24 hours, a police spokesman said.
He said police arrested a notorious drug peddler identified as Ghulam Rasool Wani alias Raja Puj, a resident of Shalimar, Srinagar and recovered huge quantity of contraband from his possession recently.
Accordingly the case was duly processed and the arrested drug peddler was detained under PSA Act after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities and shifted him to Kotbilwal Jail Jammu.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, he said adding our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
Police in a series of actions against drug dealings in Awantipora and Pulwama have arrested a drug peddler and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances, He added.
Spokesman states on a specific information, Police party from Police Station Litter raided a village Zasoo area of Pulwama. During the search, police recovered 10 Kgs of Bhung from the residential house of Suhail Ahmad Wani and 20 Kgs of Bhung from the residential house of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani of Zasoo Pulwama.
Cases vide FIR No. 73/2020 & 74/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in PS Litter and investigation have been set into motion.
Similarly in Awantipora, police at a check point established at Beighpora Awantipora area intercepted a person identified as Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani resident of Beighpora Awantipora. During checking, police recovered 4 Kgs of grinded Cannabis from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.191/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
Spokesman said as a part of anti drug drive week, Police organises awareness programme about ill effects of drug abuse on the society, besides drug de-addiction rally in Awantipora.
SDPO Awantipora, SHO Awantipora and DO Reshipora held a detailed interaction with the respectables of Reshipora area at Police Station Awantipora.
After the interaction, a rally was organized by Police to generate awareness against drug abuse and its ill effects on the society. The rally led by SDPO Awantipora commenced from Police Station Awantipora to Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) crossing.
General public of the area applauded the role of Awantipora Police for creating such rallies in the area and assured their cooperation in sharing all information related illegal use of drugs.
