Moderate to heavy snow in higher reaches, mostly rain in plains starting today afternoon/evening

Light rain/snow will commence from North and Central Kashmir parts from today afternoon/late afternoon.

Gradually it will increase its intensity and spread from today evening. Main activity of the system will be on 8th December.Plains may receive moderate rain, while moderate to heavy snowfall is possible in higher reaches.

Chances of snow are less in plains as temperatures are likely to stay higher than 3 – 4°C.
In Srinagar, day temperatures may hover around 5°C.But looking at the past experience of what happened on Nov 3-4 2018 & Nov 7 2019, chances of snow can’t be ruled out.

Weather models indicate rain will be the dominant precipitation type in plains.Day temperatures are expected to stay 4 – 10°C below normal.There will be improvement from 8th December evening or late night.

Occasional Light rain/snow showers will however continue at many places till 10th December morning.

Weather will be better on 10th and 11th December. Another light to moderate spell of rain/snow is expected on 12th December.
