Search operation continues for the 2nd day in Shopian village

Shopian, Nov 12, KNT: The cordon and search operation of Shopian’s restive hamlet continued for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

Joint Forces including soldiers from 44 Rashtriya Rifles had brought Shopian village Turkwangam under siege on Wednesday morning and the search operation continued for the second consecutive day.

An official told KNT that cordon and search operation in the village was launched after receiving inputs about the movement of militants.

Locals said that throw searches were made and door-to-door search operation continued on Thursday as well. They said Joint Forces used sniffer dogs and even orchards were searched.

“No contact with any militant has been established so for,” said a local adding that there is massive military presence in the village.

Turkwangam hamlet witnessed many gunfights in recent past. It is the native village of some top slain militant commanders. In the middle of the June this year, three militants including Hizbul Mujahideen district Commander Zubair Wani of Turkawangam, Kamran Manhas, nephew of former PDP MLC Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, a resident of Sharaab Kareena and Muneeb-ul-Haq of Sugan Zainapora Shopian were killed in a gunfight in this village.
