Srinagar, Jul 7 (UNI) A letter of former chairman of hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani being circulated on social media urging people to observe strike on July 8 and July 13 was fake, a spokesman for the Jammu and Kashmir police quoting family sources said.
He said as per family sources, the letter is fake and not issued by him.
The Spokesman said this letter is from Pakistani, adding that police is taking action against those who are circulating it through different social media platforms to instigate violence and create Law and Order (L&O) problems.
In a tweet here this afternoon on Kashmir Zone Police official website, the spokesman said “ As per the family sources of SAS Geelani the letter is fake and not issued by him. This is published from Pakistan. Police is taking action against those who are circulating it through different social media platforms to instigate violence and create L&O problems”.
The one-page letter in English urged the people to observe strike on July 8 as on this day in 2018, Burhan Wani alongwith two other militants Sartaj Ahmad and Parvez Ahmad were killed in an encounter by security forces in Kokernag in Anantnag district.
The letter, which was posted on police web site, also asked people to observe strike on July 31 as on this day in 1931 Dogra police shot dead 22 Kashmiri people who were protesting outside the Srinagar Central Jail.
Geelani recently resigned as chairman of the HC alleging corruption and irregularities in the amalgam.
