ARMY PAYS TRIBUTE TO ITS BRAVE HEARTS

Srinagar, 03 May 2020. Army today paid a befitting tribute to Late Havildar Gokaran Singh and Late Naik Shankar Singh Merha, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Rampur Sector of Baramulla district on 01 May 2020. In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen BS Raju, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage on behalf of a proud Nation.

Late Havildar Gokaran Singh and Late Naik Shankar Singh Merha were manning a forward post at the Line of Control and sustained injuries during the unprovoked Cease Fire Violation by Pakistan in Rampur Sector on 01 May 2020. The soldiers were provided immediate first aid and evacuated to the nearest medical facility, but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.

Late Havildar Gokaran Singh, 41 years, had joined the Army in 1996. He hailed from Village Napper, Tehsil Munshiyari, District Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand and is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.

Late Naik Shankar Singh Merha, 31 years, had joined the Army in 2010. He belonged to village Nali of Tehsil Gangolihat, District Pithoragarh of Uttarakhand. He is survived by his wife and a son.

The mortal remains of the martyrs were taken for last rites to their native place, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing.
