Sensex crashed by 2526 pts till noon

Mumbai, Mar 12 : The BSE Sensex on Thursday till noon slipped by 2526.22 points to 33,171.18 points and Nifty too losing ground by 750.40 points in line with global markets after the World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus outbreak a “pandemic”.
The Sensex dropped by 1225 points to open at 34,472.50.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too declined by 419 points to 10,039.75.
The sectoral indices that plummeted were Materials, Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services, Energy, FMCG, Finance, Industrilas and IT upto 8.34 per cent.
In scrips, Axis Bank was worse hit, down by 11.21 per cent followed by HeroMoto Corp by 9.67 per cent to Rs 1840.25, SBI by 9.16 per cent to Rs 222, M & M by 9.40 per cent to Rs 410 and Bajaj Finance by 8.84 per cent to Rs 3674.
Banking stocks were adversely hit as Canara Bank by 13.42 per cent, Syndicate Bank by 12.98 per cent, Bank of Baroda by 11.38 per cent, Oriental Bank of Commerce by 11.34 per cent, Punjab National Bank by 11.3 per cent , Bank of India by 11.18 per cent, Union Bank of India by 10.79 per cent and SBI by 9.62 per cent.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index slumped 670 points, or 5 per cent, and the S&P BSE SmallCap was down 670 points, or 5.3 per cent.
The carnage on Dalal Street eroded investor wealth worth Rs 8,56,689.62 crore, taking the total market capitalisation (m-cap) to Rs 1,28,56,869.10 crore on the BSE.
