COVID-19: Aurangabad Mayor urges to postpone AMC polls

Aurangabad,Maharashtra,Mar 12 : Aurangabad Mayor Nandkumar Ghodele urged to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and state Election Commissioner U P S Madan to postpone the upcoming Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) election for six months in view of possible threat of Coronavirus.
The Mayor, on Thursday said that as Coronavirus cases have been found in Pune and the disease is high contagious, so the Election Commission should postpone the polls.
Mr Ghodele also demanded that the administrative rule should not implemented during this six month period instead office bearers and corporators should be granted to work as caretakers.
However, BJP demanded that the election should be held as per schedule because there was no coronavirus threat in Aurangabad.
The present term of the civic body comes to an end on April 29.
