Centre keen to cooperate with Maha Govt to upgrade and improve Shirdi Airport

New Delhi, :  Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday said the government is keen to encourage Maharashtra government for taking up project works related to the Shirdi Airport.
Answering supplementary queries in Lok Sabha during Question Hour, the Minister said he would be “very happy to be in touch” with the state government to encourage them to upgrade it with necessary infrastructure works including at the runway.
He said upgradation of airports is a constant process. “We are presently contemplating upgrading all the airports and airstrips….but some of the airstrips are in residential and commercial areas where there is no land available”.
Asking supplementary queries, BJP MP Dr Sujay Radhakrishna Vikhepatil said the state government has already spent Rs 300 crore and the Shirdi Trust had contributed Rs 50 crore and the airport was developed.
At least 11 flights are operating from Shirdi now, he said and wanted to know whether the central government can help in upgrading and bringing about improvement at the airport.
