Eight killed, five injured in road mishap

Lakhisarai, :  Eight people were killed and five others injured when they were
hit by a speeding truck under Halsi police station area in this district late last night.
Police said here that some members of a marriage party were sitting in a hut on the
roadside when the truck rammed into it near Halsi block leaving eight dead on the spot
and five injured.
Sources said they had come from Garhi Vishanpur village under Town police station
area in the district to attend the marriage of one Dukhi Manjhi`s daughter.
Police said the speeding truck after mowing down people dashed against three high
voltage electric poles, which fell on the ground. The truck driver made good his escape
after abandoning his vehicle on the spot. The injured had been admitted to Lakhisarai
Sadar Hospital and Halsi primary health centre. The deceased could not be identified
immediately.
Infuriated over the mishap, local people blocked Lakhisarai-Sikandara road by
keeping bodies of the deceased on the road.
Lakhisarai sub divisional officer Murli Prasad said that attempts were on to identify
owner and driver of the truck on the basis of vehicle’s registration number.
